One of the questions I have had to carefully answer for my children this season was about who Jesus is. You would hear them ask questions like; “Is Jesus God?” “I think Jesus’ birthday is on December 25th” and so on.

While I tried as much as possible to supply accurate scriptural answers to them, I know there are still a lot of unanswered questions in their heart waiting for their growth and maturity. One of such is the mystery about the humanity of Jesus.

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). This is, perhaps, one of the most profound statements about the humanity of Jesus and the glory of His mission on earth. Jesus operated as 100% man and 100% God while on earth. It is a mystery. He came as our mediator and our ransom (2 Corinthians 5:18-19, 1 Timothy 2:6, 3:16).

Jesus took the form of humanity to save man. Angels could not save us (Hebrews 2:16-18). It took a man to save men (Philippians 2:5-9, 1 Timothy 2:5). He went through all that we are going through so He could ‘qualify’ to save us (Hebrews 2:14, 4:15). He was born naturally so we could be born again supernaturally (John 1:1-12). He was crucified in weakness so that, together with Him, we can live in the power of God (2 Corinthians 13:4).

Jesus came to show us how to fulfil divine purpose in human flesh. He came to let us know that, despite the limitations of man, the mission is possible when we leverage God’s Grace (Hebrews 4:15-16). He modelled unto us the power of a yielded life and the blessedness of divine empowerment that comes from such (Matthew 26:39, Luke 4:1, John 3:34, Philippians 2:5-9).

Being the last Adam, Jesus came to show us how man was meant to live if not for the fall (1 Corinthians 15:45). He had dominion over the devil and his works while on earth (Luke 4:1-14, Hebrews 2:14). He came to bring us back into the position of glory with God (Hebrews 2:10). The man Christ Jesus is altogether lovely, worthy and wonderful. This is why we celebrate Him at Christmas. He is the reason for the season.
