My spiritual father shared a story with us sometime ago. His children wanted some milk at home. As their custom is, they were encouraged to pray about it. Afterwards, someone brought a carton of evaporated milk to the house as a gift. But to his surprise, the older child insisted it was not his; he asked for powdered milk. Not too long after then, some packs of powdered milk showed up!

Friend, specificity is the rule of engagement as far as God’s Kingdom is concerned. Nothing becomes specific unless it is dynamic. While it is true that God can do all things, He is only limited by the specificity of our engagement with Him (Mark 11:22-24). This is why Jesus often ask people, “what do you want me to do for you?” (Mark 10:51).

You would have thought that the omniscient God should know all things. Yes He does, but He needs you to give Him permission to act in your life, as it were. This is why He wants you to be specific. God is not an intruder, He would not force things on you. He needs you to show interest by being specific.

Life answers to specificity. What you don’t define you cannot find. Life has been designed in such a way that what you focus on would gravitate towards you. Opportunities answer to specificity. You would notice that the moment you see or talk about a particular kind of car, you would begin to see it almost everywhere. The cars have always been there but you could not see or find them because you have not defined them.

Angels also work with specificity. Your angels, by design, are jobless; they only do what you tell them to do (Psalms 103:20, Ecclesiastes 5:6). One way to confuse your angels is to be vague in your approach to life. Angels have been assigned to serve you, but until you tell them exactly what you want, you would not get their best (Hebrews 1:14). You would enjoy increased angelic activities when you become specific.

This season, live intentionally. Be specific about what you want. As you pray, tell God exactly what you want. As you desire stuff, don’t be vague. The clearer you are about what you want the faster you get it. Define the kind of job you want. Be specific about your marital choice. Don’t be vague in your approach to finances. Don’t let life happen to you, happen to life. May you enjoy God’s best this season. Amen!
